Multi-region confidence scoring

Read the confidence score

Confidence is the number of confirming regions divided by the total regions configured for the monitor. For example, 2/4 regions - 50% means two of four configured regions reported the failure. The percentage is rounded to the nearest whole number.

• The default confirmation threshold is 2 regions.
• The default total is four regions when the monitor has no usable region list: US East; US West; Europe; and Asia.
• Repeated region entries are counted once, and a monitor's configured region count cannot be lower than its failing-region count.

Use the regional breakdown

1. Open Incidents and select an incident.
2. Find Multi-Region Confirmation on the incident detail page.
3. Compare the percentage, the regions label, and the confirming region names. The incident detail page currently uses the labels US East, US West, Europe, and Asia. These correspond to Ashburn, Virginia; San Jose; Stockholm; and Tokyo.

Understand the current severity heuristic

Severity is inferred in the incident UI; it is not a separate setting you configure. The current rules are:

• Critical: an open incident with three or more confirming regions.
• Major: an open incident with two confirming regions.
• Minor: an open incident with one confirming region, or an incident that is already acknowledged or resolved.
